Please indicate the volunteer's availability for days and times to participate. Social Skills Group sessions are either Mondays/Wednesdays/Friday OR Tuesday/Thursday. Each group is 90 minutes in duration. Volunteers must be able to commit to two consistent group sessions per week for the entire duration of the group in order for them to form meaningful friendships. Our admissions team will review your availability and discuss placement with you.

If the volunteer is going to be absent, please notify your child’s Lead Social Skills Instructor or call the office at (916) 357-5837, prior to the start of their group. Consistent attendance is highly encouraged to support the integrity of our program. Re-occurring absences may result in the termination of your participation in groups. All volunteers must commit to at least two days a week for a session time to promote cohesion. MAPS Friends and Volunteers are a valuable component of our program.

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of promptness at both arrival and departure times. If you are going to be more than five minutes late to group or to pick up, please contact the office at (916) 357-5837. Frequent late pick-ups or drop-offs may result in termination of participation in program. Please contact the office with any changes in your “Authorization for Pick Up” forms when changes occur.

You are required to sign out at the end of the group upon picking up. You must note the actual time of drop off and pick up time and a full signature is required, please do not sign with initials only. This is to ensure the volunteer’s safety.

MAPS strictly promotes confidentiality in all aspects of our program. Parents are required to keep all parent’s and child’s personal information confidential. All parties must refrain from discussing personal information outside of MAPS’ premises including social media outlets.

The role of the MAPS Friend and Volunteer is to model a grow friendship skills with our clients while being engaged in the fun activities provided by the instructors. All children have gifts and challenges, and the group and program placement will be assessed regularly by staff to promote a cohesive group. If a volunteer exhibits behavior excesses that interfere with the group, their program placement may be reconsidered.

Safety is very important to us at MAPS. The following are ways we can all do our part to keep everyone safe: •Closing Gates and Doors: It is VERY IMPORTANT when you pick up or drop off to close the gates and doors EVERY TIME you come and go. •Parking Lot: Do not leave your engine running at any time while in the parking lot, even if someone is inside the car. Do not leave children unattended in your vehicle while picking up or dropping off. •Car Seat Law: We abide by the California State Car Seat Law. If we see a child leave without a car seat, we must have the child stay at program until one is provided or officials will be called.
