MAPS Center Based Programs

Social Skills Play Groups

The Social Skills Program offers an on-campus social skills play group. Here our novice players, or clients, learn social skills through play with our MAPS Friends through child-led engaging play opportunities. Social Skills Play Groups draws on research based programs and is based in developmental patterns. The focus of this program is to develop social skills through play with peers. Social skills are taught in a naturalistic environment with an emphasis on children interacting with each other as much as possible. Once a client has graduated from program, he or she may enter a generalization period. This is where the child practices his or her skills in new environments and with other peers and adults.

Center-based Behavior Services Program

This program is designed to develop and enhance communication skills and language skills, to increase self-management and self-monitoring skills, to teach independent leisure skills, enhance group instruction and attention skills, and enhance classroom readiness skills (i.e. visual discrimination, imitation, following directions). Our Center-based ABA program teaches fundamental skills with the goal that these skills can be performed in a small group setting, and ultimately in all environments. The Center-based environment is highly structured and can be modified as needed for the clients’ program.

Adaptive Skills Training Program

MAPS Behavior Services offers an Adaptive Skills Training Program. Our program helps the child develop social skills, and decrease behavior excesses, both of which are necessary to have successful peer interactions. The Adaptive Skills Training Program relies heavily upon self help skills, communication skills, behavior interventions and social skill development. This program is ideal for clients with emerging skills who require one to one support to develop their skills. An assessment will be conducted to determine your child’s readiness for this program.

Tween and Teen Social Skills Group

We aim to provide socially significant treatment outcomes through respectful and compassionate consideration of the individualized and developmental needs of each client. We believe every client has the desire to belong, as such, we prepare a warm and caring environment for each client to grow and learn. Our staff utilizes a kind and firm approach in all our methods and teachings. For the teen program, our interventions will be based primarily on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy along with the integration of concepts from Integrated Play Groups, Applied Behavior Analysis, Montessori philosophy, Positive Discipline, and Social and Emotional Intelligence and Mindfulness. Our data-driven DBT skills and group generalization programs offer learning opportunities with an emphasis on natural consequences. MAPS acknowledges that clients must acquire many skills to navigate their world, and through our unique approach to programs we offer opportunities to promote social interaction, imagination, and creativity.
